Loudbox Mini....case modified?
The Loudbox Mini garners a lot of praise for it's function, however I have read here, there, and other places that the outside case is prone to tearing and not holding up. Or is it just some people may be a little more hard on their equipment than others.
Has anyone modified the exterior to be more robust? It seems that the sides can be removed and a stronger material be applied or corner reinforcements attached. Just wondering. |

I've had no problems with my mini or artist. I've seen some that showed wear and it looks like someone dropped it on the corners, not usual wear tear.

You have to admit that the covering they use on these is paper thin. Side by side I compared the Loudboxes to the Marshall I ended up taking home and the Tolex on the Marshall is several times thinker and way more durable than the junk Fishman uses, and the Marshall also uses some nice plastic corners as well.

The covering material is extremely thin. The rest of the construction is rock solid. I wouldn't and don't let the covering discourage me.

I have the Fishman Artist that has the same covering and it is paper thin.
I take good care of my equipment and I have a couple of tears on the covering. I do love the amp and outside of the covering, it is a solid amp. |

If you are not careful, you can scratch the covering under the handle off with your fingernail when you grab the handle. The cabinet is sturdy underneath the brown covering so the reliability is not affected but the cover is both thin and easily torn/scraped. And in my experience don't waste money on the Fishman cover. It is thin plastic and provides no real protection. Only useful as a dust cover.

Indeed, people are finding fault in the finish, but has anyone modified the finish, by applying some suitable material.

It would appear to be very difficult to reupholster the amp with any other material.

Underneath the thin covering, what is the mini made of? Plywood or particle board, etc.? Is the Artist made of the same plywood or wood byproduct?

I'm very careful with my instruments and gear and have also noticed a few scrapes on the edges of the tolex sides. Down the road, I'll probably do something to "fix" it and make it more durable, but I haven't come up with a solution yet.

What a great amp. If it ends up getting 'reliced' over the years it just makes you look like a seasoned pro.

I don't mind the "reliced" look but some of the covering that has been scraped by my fingernails when grabbing the handle has turned brown dust and has gotten into the metal vents on top. Hopefully doesn't do any damage to the inside electronics. I wish I could just scrape of the top covering, but I wouldn't have the foggiest idea on even where to start. Has anybody done anything like this to their covering?
