I had a Godin 5th Ave with the single neck P 90. It was just too dark for me. However I am much regretting not buying a TV yellow LP Jr. with a P 90. Lets call it "the one that got away."

Recently I tried an inexpensive AXL Jazzmaster clone with two absolutely generic P 90s and through a good tube amp it was stellar. Far more tone that $170 out the door should buy.

Someday going to have to find another LP Jr like the one I passed up.

I have a Gibson Es-225-t, I purchased from a USAF friend in 1959.
Single P-90.

I played it in bands through the 70's...

I purchased this guitar and a really nice amp for 150.00.
Don't remember the brand name of the amp, but it had four 6v6 final tubes, a 12 inch speaker and probably the best small amp I ever had.

I had never heard a P-90 guitar in person, after over 50 years of playing. Stopped in a local pawn shop and saw this Epi Special 1 with P-90's. Had to try it out. Loved the sound, so brought it home for a whole $70 including tax.

Actually plays great.

Yup I made that guitar about 15 years ago. Oak body stained to mahogany with Mahogany neck. Originally had P-100's in it. The 90's are much better.

Very nice. I love its simplicity, and I've always liked 3-a-side headstocks with a Strat-shaped body.

I'm a big P90 fan, have several guitars with P90s as well as some with at least one different sized version of what's roughly a P90.

Haven't kept track lately but at one time for fun I kept count of the number of P90s I owned (not counting the different sized ones.) Not the number of guitars, the number of actual pickups, so a two P90 guitar counted as two, etc. I think I was up to twelve, it's probably more than that now.

Would help if someone could say what P90s sound like. Is there a classic song that demos the typical P90 tone ? Or a guitar model that we all may know ?

One example would be the tone you hear on Neil Young's "Live Rust". Very heavily distorted, but it has the grungy sound sometimes associated with P-90s.

A better example would be the Texas Blues tone of Freddy King, which I think is more representative - a lot of his tunes were on the edge of breakup, and it sounds sublime to me. He always sounds to be on the bridge pickup.

My personal preference for P-90s is on the neck pickup, also on the edge of breakup. With the older-style lower-wind P-90s, what you get is an articulate but mildly "snotty" tone, perfect in my opinion for slow blues.

David Gilmour's solo on "Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2" was recorded with a 1956 Les Paul (which had P-90s).

I didn't know that. Classic solo with a great tone.
