Replacing a tuner knob
What's going on guys? First time poster and total guitar newbie. I'm looking at a used Ibanez electro/acoustic guitar on offer up that looks to be perfect for what I want. The only problem is that the seller says it needs a new tuner knob. How easy/difficult is it to replace a tuner knob on an Ibanez? Should this issue deter me from buying it?
Thanks in advance for helping a noobie out. Here is a picture of the knob in question: Missing tuner knob https://imgur.com/a/7tjtlSs Last edited by UrbanLegend; 10-21-2020 at 05:53 AM. Reason: Bad link |

You can buy a set of tuner knobs on E-Bay for about $10 and replace all of them.

Probably best to tae the guitar to your local repair shop where you might be able to find a suitable replacement button. Unfortunately there is no standard shaft size, so fitting one up might be an interesting chase.
Failing that, you can replace one tuner, or all six. . .

There's an important series of washers including a wavy spring steel washer that fit under each tuner knob - if those are missing it might prove easier to just replace the whole set of tuners.

I recently posted about how easy it was to change the tuner buttons on a Yamaha I have. It wasn’t without doing some research online to see what would fit that Yamaha model, which I read were similar to Grover Rotomatics.
I found something that worked on eBay and it was only $10 plus $6 for shipping (for qty 6, which they actually shipped 7). The fit was great. You can kind of see the shape online, there may be measurements, and then you can roll the dice. Seeing what a local shop has is a good idea, but when I went to a shop.. they didn’t have anything that fit. Another online shop that sold Hipshot tuner buttons.. said there were no guarantees on fit.. but that they would gladly refund any returns. Good luck! Fleabay for the win. Just make sure you order a set from the US and not from China.
