Default Anyone switch from the QSC K10 to the CP12?

Has anyone compared these speakers and decided on the CP12? I realize that it's a 10" vs 12" speaker but I have been considering unloading my K10. I currently have two K12's (originals) as mains and they sound nice and warm. I have been using a single K10 as a monitor and recently got the CP8, which has been an impressive little speaker. My issue with the K10 is that sometimes I find it to be a bit harsh compared to my K12's. It's not terrible but considering the CP12 is the same size and weight, it seems like a better speaker to have. Part of me hates unloading the K10 as it's in great condition and technically is a higher quality unit, but if the CP12 is tonally better then I might make the switch. Thoughts?

Hi Petty
I agree that the K10 is the black sheep of the QSC lineup (to my ears). It lacks the warmth of both the K8 and K12.

To my way of thinking when it comes to 'sounds better' or 'higher quality'…as an audience member I vote for 'sounds better'.

Our church bought a pair of K10s which hang on a wall unused to this day because they were drilling holes on the high end through anyone directly in their path.

I am glad to hear that I am not the only one noticing the lack of warmth with the K10! I agree though, "sounds better" is probably the way to go and really, the CP line are still very well made speakers.

I have been testing pickups through my K10 and have been struggling with the high end sounding harsh. I thought it was the pickups but now I feel as though it's the speaker.

I sold my k10 and bought a schertler

But the k12 is one of my all
Time favorites..the k.2 series
Was a step down for qsc imho.
Very harsh when pushed.

Exactly my findings! The K.2's are just not as good as the original K's. I remembered many people were marketing them as having more bass but I found them to actually have less. It sounds as though QSC increased clarity but took out some low end.

I agree though, the CP8 is a great little speaker. I did find one guy on YouTube who Dj's and owns a ton of gear. He compared the K10.2 and CP12 and loved the CP12. Again, I know it's different speaker sizes but it's the same enclosure size.

I've always said you cant go wrong with qsc
Speakers. I had both the k10 and k12. The band had k10.2.. the old k10 sounded better
Than the 10.2 not by much but definitely better. I like my cp8. I'm sure the cp12 will
Sound fine.. if you can buy it and not sell
The k10 you can compare and return the cp12 if you dont like it. I sold my k10 pretty quick on facebook mktplace .. But like I said
The k12 was my favorite so I'm sure the cp12
Is similar.. I've heard folks here say the cp series is closer in sound to the old k series.
Sort of like coke and coke classic...

As I've mentioned, I had a pair of the first-issued K10 speakers and heard them as sounding harsh and sterile when turned up some. Got rid of them for a Bose L1 Model II and didn't regret the change.

I switched, many years ago, from a K10 to a DBR10 (and later to a CP8). Other than lighter weight, I thought they were very comparable. Often when a speaker sounds "harsh" I find setting it up a little further back/away solves the problem.

I find them to be even a bit sterile at lower volumes. I might order a CP12 and compare it to my K10 and see which I prefer.

Just a heads up... I decided to order a CP12 to compare to my K10. The CP12 is on sale right now in Canada for $529.00, which is down from $699.00! The CP12 is currently $20 cheaper than the CP8 which is still at $549.00. I did a quick search and it looks like the CP12 is also $75.00 off in the US. Not sure why they are so much lower right now but a steal for sure!

Let us know when you get the CP12 and how it performs you Scott. Great thread.

I will for sure! It looks like the sale is on until December. If the CP12 is impressive enough, I might buy a second one. It would be nice to have matching monitors and even lighter options for mains. I want to compare them to my K12's as well.

I am ordering a CP12 this week and will compare it to my K10 and K12 next week. I will make sure to report back! I can say though that the CP8 is fantastic.
