Which Dustin is too modest to mention, since he is one of them.

I've posted an album on my Facebook page with a picture of a guitar built by each luthier (and amp builder) who is showing at B.I.G., and more importantly, a link with each picture to a Youtube video. I thought it would be convenient to have these links handy. I don't know if you can see it if you don't have a FB account, but here's the address, just in case:

This is a great thing you did on FB Stan, the music is indeed so good on those demos one could make a marketable CD!!!

Yes, Dustin will be very involved with the weekend, doing a Friday concert with a surprise guest which I will announce shortly and also doing a workshop on Modern Fingerstyle Techniques and at least 5 demos of various luthier built guitars at the show.

In the next few days I will have the final announcements set to go and will update the thread accordingly.

OK everyone...here is one exciting update, Karlijn Langendijk will be coming to the event from the Netherlands and will be performing with Dustin Furlow on Friday evening. As always, the caveat being as long as she is cleared to travel. If you are not familiar with her or her playing, you are in for an amazing treat. Please check out the Youtube video below for a sample of her playing. This is an original song written by her to honor her father and all he did for her:

In addition, she will be doing some demos for luthiers coming to the show and will be taking ownership of a custom built Rebecca Urlacher guitar at the show for an in-person delivery!!! That is way cool.

Karlijn is quite an unexpected surprise. I’m happy for Dustin as much as I am for myself...but for quite different reasons

I’ll be awestruck for about three days with the program, artists, and luthiers Tom is putting together!

I should know if I can make it in a week or two. A new policy aimed at overnight staff is suggesting that the Sunday before Labor Day is a mandatory work holiday. Needless to say we're planning on fighting this new policy.

Thanks Bob, I am looking forward to meeting face to face. I still have one more trick up my sleeve.

This just seems wrong. I hope they see the errors of their ways!

Here is a little poem written by our own talented Steve Kinnaird to commemorate B.I.G. (the return). Thank you Steve!

B.I.G. 2021

In 2020, I am told,
There should have been a party bold,
A time and place where friends could meet and ponder:
A new guitar, or maybe two,
An amp, a sandwich and a brew-
A weekend full of guitaristic wonder!

But something came onto our shores,
It walked through walls, it passed through pores,
The CDC said fears are not unfounded!
They told us all to stay at home,
Negate our plans, forget to roam.
And sure enough we felt like we were grounded.

So thus it was, that B.I.G. was toast.
We didn’t get to take the most
Anticipated trip of 2020.
But jump ahead a year my friend,
Now many fears are at an end.
The open road is beckoning aplenty.

For Tom has done it once again,
He’s organized a gatherin’
Where music, food and friends meet this September.
And Kathy, too (she is so great)
Is helping us to congregate,
By opening her home. So just remember:

If music is your joy, my friend,
Guitars and those who make them, then
You owe it to yourself to get to Texas.
Where grins are broad and hand shakes firm,
Where friendship runs from term to term,
So let’s not let that stinking virus vex us.

‘Cuz Hatcher, Humphrey, will be there,
And Sheriff, Willborn, Urlacher.
Five’s not enough it seems—Tom’s lost his marbles!
Paldacci, Kostal, Lamehorse too,
Buendia, Teel, Kinnaird (times two),
Will all be showing their most recent marvels.

And IF that show is not enough,
If luthiers and their shiny stuff
Still leave you wond’ring what is all the fuss for?
Just wait until you hear them played!
When music from them all is made,
You’ll bless the day you stepped inside Tom’s front door.

For Dustin Furlow will be there,
And Frog and Toad and Karlijn fair.
Their virtuosic flights will leave you breathless.
So hop a train or catch a bus,
Or board a plane, B.I.G. is a must.
We’ll see you in September here in Texas!

I like the rhyming scheme of which I should have paid more attention to in high school I guess as I do not know what it is called. I think it is cool, the first two lines rhyme, the middle seems alone, the 4th and 5th rhyme and then bam, the last line rhymes with that lonely middle line.

Thanks for the kind words. Tom, it’s just A, A, B, C, C, B. Easy, right?
What interests me is the meter, which is every bit as important.
This one is kinda odd: 8,8,11, doubled.
I just hope Rebecca doesn’t mind her name being rhymed with “will be there”!

Steve
