Just a comfortable office chair with a back rest and no armrests. I can adjust the height to my liking.

Hi, I always perform standing now.

However at home, rehearsals etc., I sit, but posture is VERY important.

This might help :

I found a hardwood bar stool with a cushion.
I need a certain angle on my leg with my guitar. Not all
stools are made alike . I have to have one that
when my foot is on the rest the guitar doesnt
slide down my leg making me constantly having
to adjust it. So the angle has to be right
or i'd rather stand. So i drag this particular stool
to all my gigs. usually a chair is good angle wise but then
your at the same head level as the audience in
places without a stage. The stool gets me above head level
so everyone can see me.

What Silly Moustache said.

If you sit, you need to ensure your posture is HELPING you instead of hindering you. No armrests, a way to elevate one of your legs, and support for the back is also great.

I see a lot of guitarists who sit in such a leaning-forward and cramped fashion that my back hurts just watching them. Prescription for a lifetime of back pain and more.

After many years believing that serious guitar players sit down when they perform, I am now solidly in the standing camp for onstage playing. Turns out that I can easily angle my neck up for best wrist ergonomics, and I can move with the music without unbalancing my guitar posture.

When recording I use an adjustable chair and a footstool. I find it easier to maintain precise microphone position when sitting.

I like to avoid sweat on my backside, strain on my back, cramps in my legs from being so constrained by the seat and I like to avoid having to reach too far to get to my pedal board. If my seat is too high, I reach too far to use my harmonizer foot pedal etc and I get cramps and its just a pain all over. So height, padding, and support all are important as is the breathability factor of the seat. I use a padded breathable cushion on top of a padded stool at exactly the right height....I cut the legs off the stool so it fits me.

I sit on a Pick N Glider but I'm starting to stand more when I play. Of course that gets into finding comfortable guitar straps which is a whole different can of worms.

It’s even better when the stool matches the strings AND the guitar...
