I just checked my Thalia to see what you were referring to. Initially I thought it was the portion that is designed to be switched out, but now I can see that it is not, and I can see how this is problematic. What a real bummer, but it sounds as if the owner is working with you.

I, for one, assume that I would notice the first time I would have used it, but who knows? I certainly appreciate the heads up, though, so that I can be a little more aware of the possibility of it happening at all.

On a Thalia? The rubber is so thin... there is no buzz or action difference.

Man, that sucks. I'll bet it's a mistake a man makes only once in a lifetime, at least.

It’s not just Thalia’s - I’ve had the same thing with a couple of Shubbs and a G7th Newport. Fortunately, I noticed each time before I used the capo, so no damage resulted, but it’s made me pretty careful with capos now.

I’m not surprised I didn’t find it... I play a gig, in dull light, wipe it down, put the guitar in its case, and open it the next gig, which is usually 2 a week, then once every 3 weeks or so, I do a tune up and change the strings, where I did see the capo was missing it’s rubber. The Rubber piece fell off at a gig, not my floor.

Perhaps if I played on a couch or porch or home studio everyday I might’ve seen it sooner...

LOL... let’s hope so... I almost made it my whole life without doing so.

Me as well...Thanks for the heads up...

I have a Thalia on the way. I will be extra certain to be careful. I am generally pretty anal as well, and probably would have generally noticed. Could go either way for anyone if you're tired, there is lower light, etc...Even for the OCD anal type never say never...Nobody is perfect at anything all the time forever...lol...

Thanks for the report. It may easily help others to avoid what happened to your Martin.

Sorry for your troubles...definitely a bummer...Hope you get it all fixed up to your satisfaction...

The reality is there is probably not a single product on the planet that can’t fail in some way at some point...

I've had pads fall off of capos in the past. That was especially a problem with Kyser capos that I'd modified to be partial capos. The fact that what happened to you has never happened to me is the proof.

That said, I can see how you might get caught out the first time. But you seem to have implied that this issue existed for quite some time before you noticed it. Blaming Thalia for ALL the damage seems akin to blaming Firestone for your rim damage after driving on a flat tire for a couple of hundred miles.

That stinks. Thanks for the PSA though. I have a Thalia and I really like it. I'll just keep my eye on it.

That is correct. It's an immediate difference.

Sorry for your mishap. Thanks for the heads up and reminder to all of us to check for these kinds of things.
