Default Man, tell that to Keith Richards

Playing in Open G he gave us BROWN SUGAR, HONKY TONK WOMEN, CAN'T YOU HEAR ME KNOCKIN' and WILD HORSES. I think he found a lot of money doing that! And many parts of those songs are above the 5th fret.

"Steve Cropper could play more in 7 notes than most metal players could in a 20-minute solo." - Unknown, Guitar Player Magazine

"There's no prize for getting to the end of the song first." - Me, said to a drummer who would speed up as they went through EVERY song.

Do you know how many guitars you need?........Just one more!

The '5th fret' quote is from James Jamerson - bass player for pretty much every Motown record.

Here's another quote - Jackson Browne to Tom Petty at the MUSE concerts, on opening for Bruce Springsteen:

Browne: "If it sounds like they're booing, they're just yelling BRUUUCE."
Petty: "What's the difference?"

"The guitar is the most unpredictable and least reliable musical instrument in existence...and also the sweetest, the warmest, the most delicate, whose melancholic voice awakes in our soul exquisite reveries." - Andres Segovia

"This is a national steel guitar. One day I was sitting and playing around on this and came up with "Romeo and Juliet" just because of the nature of the guitar. (demonstrates) I could probably play it on that (indicates Martin) and it would sound okay but it wouldn't be quite the same as this delightfully vulgar piece of equipment (smiles gently). It's got the lovers on the back in the canoe, too, doesn't it? Really, I've always thought of these things as being magical, in a way." - Mark Knopfler

"I play the way I do because it allows me to come up with the sickest sounds possible. That's the point now, isn't it?" - Jeff Beck

Lots of great quotes, most I'd not heard before. I suppose the old, related quote that is most applicable to me is:

"three chords and the truth"

If someone already listed, my apologies.

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Lodi

If I only had a dollar
For ev'ry song I've sung
And ev'ry time I had to play
While people sat there drunk
You know, I'd catch the next train
Back to where I live
Oh Lord, I'm stuck in Lodi again
