Default John kinnaird build thread 2016

Ive got a lot on the bench and rather than post different threads, i thought id join the crowd and make a blanket thread showing what's happing here in the mountains of Swannanoa.

The first pictures are of a large model I call the Round Peak after a local area near here that has developed a distinctive style of old time music. This guitar will be a 12 string. Its also a 12 fret, padouk and bear claw sitka. The neck, coming in later views has been inlayed by Craig Lavin. Lots of abalone gave their lives for the purfling.

Bubinga binding and padouk rosette

I like your rosette idea. It's good to see a 12 string too!

Thanks Mark. The commission was to make a rosette that had lots of umph. This one took on a life of its own. It sort of reminds me of one that Tom had built.

AHHHH, no wonder I liked it haha. I notice some similarities also, eccentric in nature and the pointed "v" at the bottom....it is beautiful as is the bearclaw top.

Unique rosette design. Purses! And I do see the Tom connection. And I can see your customer loves abalone as much as me. Lookin good 😊

Very pretty design....rather French Arts Nouveau feel (1890 or so).

Nice design John! That Bearclaw is really engaging.

That's gonna be a purrrrty guitar when it is done...heck it's purrrrty already! For those people who love 12 string guitars, this is one of the few custom 12 stingers I've seen in quite some time and should draw a lot of attention.

It's clear you've been hard at work in that beautiful place in the mountains!

And another vote of appreciation for the rosette.

Am I missing it? I failed to see what the B&S wood was. i have my suspicions of course.

Thanks Rocking Bard. That back and side wood is pakouk. I seem to be in a rut because I've got another padouk guitar on the bench. Its good wood.

Add me to list of those who think the rosette is beautiful/elegant/stunning. Not at a loss for adjectives on this one. Wood choices are stunning as well. Looking forward to seeing more of it.
