Great father & son project, great thread, great choice of natural wood accents, and what looks like it's going to be a great guitar...

We've had some more time on the guitar lately and are quite happy with the progress. We've got the box closed after taking the braces down quite a bit - and are moving on to the purfling and binding.
Next up: The back binding Take a look! Enjoy!

Kyle and I have had some more time on the guitar over the past couple weekends and have the body closed and bound on both sides now.
We're quite happy with the progress we're making - and are ready to move on to the bridge and neck - probably next weekend. Enjoy!

Wow that looks nice...and like a lot of fun. I have some friends who built electrics from scratch but that doesn't take near the craftsmanship of what you're doing.

wow that looks very good. Must be fun making a guitar together. Continue the hard work. Anyone see a private guitar maker emerge from this

It looks really good and you're some photographer as well!
That is so tempting a thing to try, but I know I would mess up the finer points like the binding and especially the finishing. One thing I do regret is not trying out building when I was younger. Hey, I know they sell Uke kits.....

You and me both!!!
Kyle (my son) is in the process of purchasing the supplies for his (our) next guitar build (that would be #4). His is a much different design than mine - and I'm excited to work on it with him leading the way on this one. We got most of the way through making the mold over the weekend - and hope to make the side bender (variation on the Cumpiano plan) sometime soon. I'm already dreaming of my #5 - which will be the same body shape as #3 - but with a Florentine cutaway. I'm thinking of bloodwood binding and the Aramaic text from our tattoos on the 12th fret. I'll try to post a mockup of my design idea in the near future. Thanks to everyone for the great words of encouragement! If you want to see more photos from this build or our class build with Kevin Gallagher of Omega Guitars - click on the links in my signature below.
