Played a Taylor Grand Pacific 317e today

Didn't do much for me. Didn't sound bad but didn't sound all that great either. Note that I'm not a Taylor guy to begin with, but I've played 300 series Taylor guitars before and always felt they offered a lot of bang for the buck in the tone department.

I'd been wanting to try the Grand Pacific since it was announced and finally wandered into the guitar store that carries Taylors today and that was all they had in the GP line. I was hoping for something a little higher on the Taylor scale, but that's all they had in the GP.

I grabbed a few more models and nothing did anything for me (not unusual for Taylors) until I grabbed the little Academy nylon guitar! Wow!! What a great sounding little guitar for the money. small body but with big tone for under $700! I almost bought it!

I was looking at my Taylor Wood & Steel magazine which talked about the Grand Pacific launch. I got really excited and starting looking for info and videos about the 317e, 517e, and 717e today. Too bad the 317e was disappointing for you. I will try to find one myself. Maybe the 517e or 717e are better?

Just the opposite for me . I finally got to try a 317E yesterday and was very impressed. It’s not a Gibson Slope by any means but I would say it is a nicely made playable instrument .Projects well and the sound has more character than your typical Taylor. “IMO”
