Guitar interface for iPad
Hello,
I would like to practice with my electric guitar using headphones (and not disturb everybody in the house). For this, I thought to use an interface to my iPad. For this, I did some research and found some devices which would cover this use case. iRig 2: https://www.ikmultimedia.com/product...2/?pkey=irig-2 Roland GO:MIXER: https://www.roland.com/us/products/gomixer/ My question now: does anybody have some experience using such devices? Is a device necessary or would just a cable 6.35mm -> 3.5mm work to just plug in the guitar and iPad and use GarageBand? MillSO Audio Adapter 3.5 mm Male To 6.35 mm Male: http://www.millso.com/product_line_M35M635.php Are there any other recommendations? Thank you, |

I use the Apogee Jam to record electric guitar into GarageBand on iPad. I have an older model which is super simple but the newer version has a clean/drive option as well as onboard headphone monitoring, which is a great feature, especially now that newer iPad and iPhone models have dropped the headphone input.

The regular iRig is garbage. Get the iRig HD 2 instead. I have the older model and works great on my iPad.

I also have the iRig Duo. It works quite well (I use it primarily with Cubasis, the Cubase iPad version DAW).
Good thing about the duo is that one of its XLR inputs has phantom power which is great if you are using a mic that requires it. Dave |

How is Cubasis? I think I downloaded the trial version but didn’t get to play much with it. |

I truly enjoy it. It’s a much more powerful DAW than garage band. I do all of my audio editing on it (except occasionally using audacity on my PC to split stereo tracks to mono, which I suspect cubasis can also do).
Keep in mind, I’m a hack hobbyist (sample here: https://youtu.be/VIdt0k9A7es), but I like the interface, built in effects, crazy number of tracks, leveling, midi and audio for things like drums and other virtual instruments, etc. Cheers Dave |

Thanks that’s some good feedback. I think I’m gonna give it another go. *edit* Watched the video and that sounds really good. Good voice too! Last edited by 1neeto; 01-05-2021 at 08:18 PM. |

Hey, wow! Thanks! Quite happy with how Cubasis and the iRig handle the garage (and me). Cheers! Dave |

Feedback
Thank you all for the feedback. I understand that such a device is needed and just a direct cable wouldn't work. I will try an iRig (normal & HD) to see which one performs better.
