I have both and I prefer the Strat. Nothing wrong with the Tele, but the Strat has a wider range of tonal options that all sound great plus it has the tremolo bridge.

I have 1 of each, a mid 90’s Standard Strat and a Hot Rod 52 reissue Tele. If I had to keep one it would be the Tele. I love the twang the Tele has and the mini humbucker at the neck allows me to dial up some great classic rock tones. I’m not much of a blues or surf rock player so the Strat is under utilized.

Stratocaster. Guitar of choice for over thirty years; everything else came and went.

No offense, but doesn’t this belong in the electric section of the forum?

3 pick up Tele. Works for me anyway.

Both, of course.

The Tele works better for me ergonomically.

Have had both.
I solved the either/or question by adding a Strat middle pickup to my Tele. So effectively, I had a tonal hybrid tween the two. I added a five position switch, so had lotsa tonal options. Positions 1 and 5 were pure Telecaster. Positions 2 and 4 (plus 3 of course) had the Strat quack. It was a fun guitar! But to the Original Post, if only one, I’d take a Tele over a Strat. Tele all day long. Now if you want to kick it up a notch, LP Juniors and Specials rule them all.

I prefer strat. Mine is wired to play the neck and bridge pickups at the same time.

I have a modern Strat now, it’s a nice guitar. But I wish I still had the ‘64 Tele I had back in the ‘60s/‘70s - man, that was a guitar!
So, for me, the answer to the original question is ‘Telecaster’.

Telecaster for me. IMO the best workhorse guitar in the "electric world"!

Strat for me, easily.
Telecasters have always seemed like a prototype that needed one more solid iteration to me... |
