As I fumble around in the darkness of home recording, I use two AT 2035 mics into a Zoom H5 in a collection of poorly sounding rooms.

I have Apogee Element 46 interface. I have a pair of Microtech Gefell M300's, an AKG 414 XLS, and a Royer 121. I use the Microtech pair for duo recording. For solo guitar I mostly record in mid/side with one m300 and the 414, though I've been playing around a lot this week with the the ribbon mic as the side mic..

That right there is my dream mic-locker for acoustic guitar. I'm envious.

Sdelsolray is the one that first turned me onto the Gefell M300, very kindly lending me a pair of them and a pair of KM 184's to play with for a week. I ended up liking the Gefells a tad more, and bought a pair of them a few years later. I love those mics. I'm thinking I might like a ribbon mic next, or maybe a pair of tube mics. But that will be a bit down the road, what I have now is honestly enough for my day to day needs. Gotta save money for more guitars.

I think I posted a comparison of several different preamps a while back - the differences were less than expected, if I recall. But I can't locate the thread.

OP asked about levels: I leave some headroom when tracking. Somewhere in the -6 to -12 db range, usually. Bring it up to CD level during mastering.

OP also asked about placement: various :-) spaced pairs, XY, MS. I've done a number of videos demoing some of these. Here's two:

Wonderful Videos Doug! Very, very appreciative for your work on this. You playing of course sounds lovely no matter the set up.
However I could definitely tell differences in sound space and intelligibility. Very useful Video. Thank you.
I am going to have to listen your Stereo Mic Techniques video at least another 20 or so times.
