'77 Fender Super Twin Reverb
I bought a Fender Super Twin back in 1977. It went throught 100s of gigs through the 80s until is was basically beat to a pulp, tolex ripped up and held together by wood glue and big wood screws. Lent it to a friend in the early 90s who used it for a few years and put it in storage where it's been until a month ago.
Last week bought a raw pine head cabinet, unfinished, w/o mounting hardware, holes, etc. Last week I stained it, drilled holes and installed the mounting hardware, corners and Fender emblem from the original cabinet . . . Replaced all the tubes and cleaned pots, electrical components and did some minor repairs . . . Sounds great! 180 watts RMS (395 peak!), six (6) 6L6 power tubes . . . Way too powerful for my present needs, but great to have it back in action if only for old times sake . . . [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] |

Gotta love restoration projects. That used to be a combo, correct?

Yeah, used to be a combo (weighed approx. 100 lbs . . .). You can see the empty combo cabinet under the head . . .

Nice work! The stained wood almost looks like tweed fabric at first glance. I gotta ask though, have you ever tried to get that monster to break up? That is a tremendous amount of wattage on tap.

Sure, I've cranked it up many times. I use an original Tube Screamer TS-808 (1980) with it and it sounds absolutely great. It's just way to loud for 99% of any situation. I was thinking of getting a speaker attenuator so I can turn it up and get a workable volume . . . .
