I’m getting married soon...
..and I need suggestions on music for the ceremony. I’m not looking to influence opinions here at all. So while this come down to taste, I want blind submissions. Three string group - two violins, one cello (maybe a guitar. Fingers crossed.)
I will say this... looking to avoid cliches. No Cannon in D, please. Also, I love Chopin. Thank you! Matt p.s. Mods, move as needed.

Here you go—> Joseph Haydn : Quatuor à cordes en ut majeur op. 76 n° 3 "L'Empereur"
My husband assures me this is very often adapted for trios. Have a listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaoq8U7LBts Or Opus 20 n°3 (allegro con spirito) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKkTE4GUIhc (Going back to Opus 76, one could also make a case for either N°2 or N°4.) Also, big congrats!

The William Tell Overture--that should get you off to a good start. Maybe as you leave the church?

In any case congrats , a pearl of wisdom if I may ... with 40 years and counting ,,,, Remember always,,,, marriage is partnership and compromise IF this group your using is creative enough to step outside the classical music box ??? Here are two songs that have worked for me I have played this at weddings , this vocal song (The Wedding Song / There is Love ) by Noel Paul Stookie makes a fantastic instrumental as well And this Dylan song I played for my wife at our wedding, and 40 years come May we are stronger and more in love than ever This version is arranged Country Swing style but can be played in other styles as well

J.S. Bach Prelude, from Unaccompanied Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major - 9. Your cellisti will love you for it. Yo-Yo Ma, no less.
Perhaps you can find a reduction of this piece, one of my favorites, for a trio: This is a pretty little thing, especially starting at 4:15, and your first violinista will love you. And last but not least, an excerpt from Mozart's Violin Concerto no.3 Note that I used the versions from Master and Commander because they were quickly available on YouTube and all but the Correlli Adagio were played by soloisti or small ensembles. I've thought for a long time that one of Froberger's Sarabandes would make
touching wedding music. There are lots of them, but the one from Suite XX is worth checking out, to start. |

Ah I performed this on steel string guitar as my final exam for my freshman year of college! Always dear to my heart, thank you both for the reminder and for the reminiscence! Quote:

After 54 years of marriage I still find moments where the Overture suits the moment.
Given the various music suggested, I could see an incredible edited video of the ceremony that would be worth many years of pleasurable viewing. Congratulations to you, and good luck to the bride. |
