Default Webber Wood Question

I had a great opportunity to pick up this 2007 Webber 00. It’s so much fun to play and sounds great. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter, but neither the dealer nor I can figure out definitively what the back and sides are. Top is cedar. The dealer thought maybe a type of Koa, but it doesn’t look like that to me. Maybe sapele? Maybe walnut? Any thoughts?

And, hers’s the front... for good measure...

Definitely East Indian Rosewood - David had a lot that looked like that. Actually the first Webber OM I bought way back when looked a bit like that - super sounding guitar too.

On second look it MAY be black walnut too I guess.

Yes, I'm leaning toward walnut now - when I first looked at it my laptop screen was tilted and made it look darker.

Thanks to both of you. I always wondered what walnut would sound like. Thank you,

I can't believe how much different it looks on my 27" monitor in the studio than it did on my laptop last night!

A great analogy of how much context matters.😁

Yep. Straight grain black walnut! Delicious!

Been reading up on walnut... Explains why I am so enamoured with the tones matches with the cedar. Thanks, all!

I have seen some un-figured Ovangkol, aka Shedua, that looks a lot like this. The tree is from Africa, and is a close cousin to Bubinga. I have a few sets with spectacular flame figure and multi-colors. Shedua ranges from very plain to outrageously decadent.

That is true quartersawn eastern black walnut. I would venture further and say from northern part of the US, north of the old US 50 highway. Looks like indiana, illinois, ohio and part of pa. An old walnut connoisseur. That looks exactly like the walnut preferred by the veneer mills that used to exist up and down the ohio river.

Thank you, both. The back and sides are elegant and gorgeous. The pictures do not do them justice. The other think of note is how light the guitar is.

Have you contacted Webber with your serial number? Most builders keep a log of build specifications tied to the serial number.

Thanks. Good idea. I believe he retired. His website no longer is up. I wouldn’t want to bother him if he has indeed stepped away. But, if anyone know that he is still taking inquiries and has an email to gently reach out, please message me. Thanks!!
