I would buy one guitar...Martin 0-18
Then one ukulele...Martin T1K (tenor uke) That's what I would buy.

After receiving and playing the OT-22 for a couple days, I’m quite confident reiterating my previous recommendation: Southern Jumbo and OT-22!!

I would use the money on my kids' college tuition.

Here's another way to ask your question...Do you want 2 average girlfriends or 1 hot mama?
But...Funny you ask....I have 3K credit and have been contmplating this for weeks... I 've narrowed it down to either 1. $3K guitar 2. 1 12 string & 1 six string totalling 3k depending upon deals I find The downside to the 2nd option is $1500 guitars are kind of sucky.... Pretty sure I'll go with 1 great 3K guitar...I want that 1 hot mama

I get it. I have one half way through undergrad, and his younger brother heading off on the 16th. And I have to admit, I did sell my Collings D1T three weeks ago, and you can guess where most of that money went... with no regrets.

It would really depend where I'm at in my guitar buying life in this scenario.
If you mean me today, I'd buy one guitar because I've gone to a number of guitar stores in the last 25 years (since I started getting interested in guitars) and have played a decent variety of instruments so I know what I like. If you mean me minus that experience (or if a friend who wanted to really get into guitar had $3K to spend for example) I would totally suggest buying two guitars that struck their fancy but were completely different, for example something Martin flavor and something Gibson or Taylor flavor. I'd suggest they live with them both over the course of a year or two and then sell both and buy something upscale with the money from those sales (and some of their own). Maybe that's crazy but I did a lot of horse trading when I was starting out and don't own any of the guitars I did 10 years ago and am still considering swapping things around more still. |

That's good advice. I bought a T1K early this year (my first uke). Really enjoying it.

I would buy a Martin SC13e and several Ibanez hollow-body electrics.
Similar to what I have now: a D-28, an Ibanez AF75, and an Ibanez acoustic/electric bass. |

That seems about right and if you are lucky with the right one, there is not much more you can get after that .. other than diminishing returns for that elusive Holy Grail .. for 20k or more
