Default Acoustic Letter blindfold challenge

These are the best kinds of comparison videos. I bet Quinton wouldn't have said what he said about the HD-28 if he knew it was an HD-28.

Two surprises for me. The $200 Yamaha was not overly bright, which is my playing experience at Guitar Center. The Taylor was noticeably different in tone than all the others and would not be what I was looking for in a dreadnought.

Most folks don't like blindfold tests.
They simply must believe that more money buys more guitar.
I am not one of them.
Their endless quest for 1% of tone is silly when they can't even play.

To some degree, comparing guitars is kind of silly. (I did enjoy the video, though.)
You like the sound of a guitar or you don't.

There will always be that guitar that sounds better. Just being different can make it sound better for a short time. We get used to a tone, a new tone intrigues us.

Now, Willie's guitar. That's a guitar!

This was posted earlier this week. As I said then...pretty impressive that Quinton got it right. Not sure I could.

I thought it was interesting that the fact that the guitar he liked the best, the Guild D-55, was brushed under the rug at the end and the other Martin was brought out for discussion along with Quinton's instead.

I like blind tests because they are testing our ears and not our eyes.
There are a lot of things that go into why we like one guitar over another but the sound is usually the biggest factor.
When we are only subjected to the sound, things can become very interesting.

I am a big believer that many of us are brand snobs including myself.
When we only get to use our ears for a comparison, we take away the bias and only get to experience the guitar for it's actual tone.
I would live to do and see a lot more blind tests.
