A buddy of mine has an electric guitar that is like a Les Paul. BUT....instead of saying Gibson on the headstock...it says...Goldie....it's not finished gold but more of a color between copper and gold. It's a good guitar....he nor I can find any info about it....does anyone know ANYTHING...about it? thanks in advance!!!

Goldie is the name given to an actual Gibson Les Paul '59 Burst (a lot of those old classics have names), but it wouldn't have said Goldie on it. Does it look like someone refinished the name on the headstock? Perhaps they removed the name Epiphone, or whatever was there, and changed it to Goldie?

While your theory is possible I really dont see the advantage on producing a guitar with such an obviously "fake" name. I think they are beyond that. If they can produce and sell such excellent fakes of Gibsons, Luis Vuitton, etc and do such a good job of it why "fake" it...go for the clones and make more money. Probably just a "minor" player trying to get the scraps.

What do you mean by this "drive-by" comment? I see whats happening on ebay. If you mean the influx of fakes then explain your post. My statement refers to their ( China's) ability to produce such excellent fakes with the proper headstock name that people would be more inclined to buy that than one with an obviously fake name. Not endorsing the production of these items but if you are...go for the gold.

There's alot of these knockoffs that have cheap parts (ex:smaller volume/tone pot's) and if you compare it side by side it's even more evident. Some are actually pretty good after upgrading parts as far as playing them and tone. Pedigree maybe hard to find, try a search over at some of the other forums ( the les paul forums)
