Now that is out of the box Mark. I think I can picture the cutaway. It should look great on a small bodied guitar.

I think it will look good also. The trick will be how the facet trasitions into the body at the neck. It will be be an instance of just finessing it in. Mark

Back Bracing
I decided to go with Western Red Cedar for the back braces. In this pic I am setting the braces up with all of the miter cuts. You can also see part of how the cutaway is going to be:
Thanks! Mark

Looking good Mark. Why the cedar bracing?

I have had great results using cedar back braces with Indian Rosewood guitars and expect the same results with walnut as they are in many ways quite similar.
This will help keep a very lightly built back light. Thanks, Mark

Ahhh, got it. My initial thought was that it may have something to do with the weight of the back and sides.

Put a shine on that
Back from the finisher, my third Josie just arrived. This is a full bodied small jumbo with a Western Cedar top and BRW back and sides:
It has a Black Ebony, spalted Tamarind, and abalone rosette: A Black Ebony bound sound port: The body is bound in Black Ebony along with a center strip: There is also abalone purfling on the top: This guitar has a 5pc mahogany neck with a cross grain BRW center laminate bordered in maple: I'll try to get it finished this weekend and get sound clips to compare to the others. Thanks for viewing! Mark

Thanks Nemoman!
Looks like your Stehr is coming right along and looking great! If I were to order a custom Joel Stehr would be on top of my list along with Tom Doerr and I see you already have one of Tom's too. You're a man with great taste! Mark

Thanks, Mark--I'm really looking forward to having the Stehr in hand! And the Doerr is a real gem to play (and look at) as well. If I ever can swing doing another custom, you're definitely at the top of my list--your craftsmanship and detailing are really second to none. I really look forward to trying out of of your guitars one of these days...

Congrats on another killer guitar Mark. Boy that came to life with the finish and I really like the sound port, between the dark binding and the white line it just looks great. You are a true master when it comes to bringing out the most in the woods you have!

You sure know how to build em'! Gorgeous guitar. I am partial to that top and rosette combo but I guess you would figure that. Beautifully done Mark!
