G&L Bluesboy which is the Musician's Friend SDOTD right now for under $300. Tele goodness with a neck humbucker, it is all kinds of versatile.

Some great advice so far!
It's a very personal thing choosing a electric and accompanying gear.
You need to be brutally honest with yourself about what you want or will use the guitar/amp for.
A " old school country" players needs/ wants are totally different than a ' metal head" would want for example.
My advice? I got a tip from a great bass player I know a lonnggg time ago and it holds true today.
" you can always add" " hair or dirt"" to your tone but you can't add clean".
If I had to sell all my gear but 1 amp and 1 guitar I'd keep my tube amp and my telecaster.
Good luck! It's a fun journey, enjoy!
