Harmonica Holder
Does anyone have a recommendation for a harmonica holder?
(To play guitar and harmonica at the same time) |

If money were no object, the Hohner Flex Rack would be the way to go. It has the most flexibility in angles of adjustment, is sturdy, doesn’t have sharp wing nuts on it, and is generally well-reviewed (and comes in black).

IF you're playing through a mic, AND your harmonica(s) are metal and not plastic, the Harp Arm magnetic harmonica holder clamps right to the mic stand. Makes swapping out to different keys much simpler. No rack to get caught in your guitar strap. Works great for me.

I've tried about everything and nothing really worked until I found the Harp Lock. It allows me to play handsfree very much like I play with the harmonica in my hand. I like it so well I bought two and will probably pick up another one to go in my "oh crap" bag I keep in the car.

These kick everything else to the curb. I have FOUR! BUT you have to use harps with steel covers My Lee Oscars and Sydels work great. So do Hohners. Farmer/Sydel Gecko magnetic rack. I add a second neodymium magnet underneath to avoid dislodging the harps. Brass, plastic, etc will not attach to the magnet… I have been using these for about 10 years, since I first found one of the original Farmer models. I would not want one of the magnetic widgets that holds the harp to the mic. Harmonica is LOUD and piercing thru a PA! Have mercy… lean away from the mic! YMMV, etc Happy honkin’ Paul

Cool beans
Just watched and listened to all the blows me away videos. Very intriguing!!!
But I almost always play unplugged and un-amped. So the acoustic harp is what my audience always hears. And, if I was still RAWKIN’ this would be ordered already! Cheers Paul

Hey man, I’m the drummer in the video of the harp player while drumming. You can remove the end caps to get a clearer sound if you want. Or just get the rack. It’s magnetic for quick changes and is adjustable in many ways. The height, distance from your face, and the individual angle of the harmonica is all able to be changed. It’s awesome.

Got it already
Hey Zack
I have four of the Farmer/Sydel racks. The best IMO I just don’t need the groovy mic attachment widget, although it is a cool thang Cheers Paul

My verdict
I agree with Guitars44me if you have a harmonica made of steel, such as the Hohner Special 20 harmonicas that I own. I tried the Hohner rack, and the one that attaches directly to a Shure mic and a few others.
In my opinion, the Farmer/Sydel harmonica holder is MUCH easier to adjust and use than the previous two. It's a little expensive, but to me, it was worth every penny. You can purchase it directly from their site: https://www.footdrums.com/product/ge...#configuration It also came with a nice storage pouch, which the others I bought did not.

I bought one of the Farmer/Sydel holders based on the recs in this thread. Oh my. What an awesome product. I can finally play harp along with guitar again.
I have one of the old Lee Oskar spring loaded clamps that I hated dealing with so much I gave up on it. This Farmer/Sydel one is the bee's knee! Thanks for the rec!! |
