First day of a new student build. Power went out, so Steve has busted out the card scraper to get the back down to thickness.

Ah the romance of old school technology. Where’s the student?

I think you’re looking at him; Steve finally signed up for Ryan’s class.

Ok. Behind the scenes. Unfortunately as good as a teacher that I am , first day students still don’t rate scraper use. They have to hold the flashlight. By day 5, some of them get to try their hand at scraping.

Getting back into the groove after another whirlwind build. Two days with a loss of power for a couple hours didn’t stop us from completing a great build. Here’s a couple of shots of the Adi/Brazilian dread that we put together.

Yep. I would strongly recommend against using Adirondack and Brazilian for your first build (even if supervised), but knowing the risk and potential cost, our student did a very decent job.

We had some fun with the heavy storms yesterday. A lightning bolt hit a very tall pine (far left of shot) right outside our shop. The current from the bolt jumped trees halfway down and went through the red oak which blew apart at the base. Some pieces were thrown 80 feet from the tree! Hopefully both trees will survive.

Wow, that is pretty dramatic. Did you lose power again?

Amazingly not. There was no student here to interrupt.

Beautiful blue bird sunny day = power outage for a half day
Lightning strikes a few yards from the shop = business as usual seems about right... Glad the shop and house (and inhabitants) fared well!
