Allright guys, I think you have convinced me that an interface may be the better choice, so back in the pool I go. Mike, that scarlett looks like a good buy but not sure if I need more. Anyway, here is what I think I need: 2 xlr mic ports with 48V, 1 or better yet 2 guitar ports, a line out to my amp as a moniter, USP connection to my PC. a controlled no latency mic port, mixing software or compatable with Audacity. In a nutshell, I want to eventually produce some decent CD's and also use the interface to send a mixed signal to my amp for live performance. How's that for a wish list? I am starting to learn some of the jargon even if I may not know what it all means. Thank you all for bieng so patient with this newby.

I'd recommend moving up to a full featured DAW. Reaper is free to download and try out, pay to register it when you decide to keep it.
