I went over to a local guitar store during this past year and
played a Blueridge 140a... mahogany with an adirondack top... maybe that's what "a" means? It certainly qualified as a good usable playable guitar. I liked the headstock and the tuners on it... -Mike |

That price tag looks like a fair price for the guitar, if it sounds and plays well. There are guitars that would suit me better (not a fan of the neck profile, the finish or the cosmetics) but price-wise that seems like a decent value if it suits you.

Yes, the "a" is Adirondack. I like Blueridges but they had a big price increase within the last few years. I would consider one used but I don't think I'd pay over 1k for a new one. That's just me. Not quite the value they once were at those prices.

What I have generally found with guitars from China and Korea (and similar) is that the quality control seems uneven. If you find a good one, it can be a wonderful guitar, but if not, it will probably leave you with a less than enthusiastic opinion of guitars from that part of the world.
I purchased a used Blueridge BR-341 parlor guitar from a local forum member via Craigslist for just over $500 last year, and it really is a decent guitar, a keeper to be sure. I don't have much other experience with Blueridge but the few I have seen were (in my opinion) not nearly as nice as mine. I chalk that up to the variance in quality control rather than that Blueridge doesn't make good guitars. Tony |
