Default Taylor First Edition 816ce - SOLD

Here is one of two guitars I am selling in order to fund a new purchase. This Taylor is one of the First Edition redesigned 816. It is number 140 of 200. I acquired this guitar this summer from the wife of a gentleman who passed away at 85. He was a regular at the local guitar society where I do the sound. She wanted to sell it so I offered to sell it for her on this forum but found the rules didn’t allow that. I also found that this guitar had the corner of the bridge that was lifting ever so slightly. I arranged for the warranty work to be done for her. It was done by a certified Taylor repair tech in Portland and it looks great. The work was done using hide glue. I captured the area of the repair in a photo of the bridge. Finally, she asked me if I would buy it from her and she offered it at a price I couldn’t refuse.

As for tone: Don’t think typical “Taylor” sound when you imagine the voice of these new redesigned models. They are definitely an upgrade. It actually has a very nice deep rumbly bass and nice fat notes indicating a good midrange. The trebles are more subdued than the typical Taylor sound. It has great volume.

The ES2 is easy to operate and has absolutely no quack it very much sounds like the guitar. Through my Schertler amp only a small mid cut is needed. Very natural. When I did sound for the guitar society, this guitar sounded the best when amplified over all the other systems.

This guitar is a year and a half old but unfortunately there is some noticeable minor dings that keep me from saying that this guitar is in mint condition. One is located at the waist on the side that I was able to capture with the light in one of the photos and another on the back. These are minor and did not crack the finish but they can be felt if you slide your fingers over the area. You will find a few more minor scratches but they are smaller than these two. For example, when posting the pics I noticed a nick on the back of the headstock. There is very, very limited fret wear.

I gathered opinions from retailers and established that this guitar in perfect condition would be around $2500. I am reducing the price $200 for the cosmetic deficiencies. NO TRADES. This thing gets a new owner for SOLD.

How did they work out? Did they help with the ES?

Actually they both worked well. Might sell both however. Would like to have a later model Taylor (an 816 would be nice) but need to deal off the 810 that I have now. Really like it, but..........

Put the 810 on here.

The redesigned models does this: It creates two camps. One, that loves the new sound and design and think it is an improvement. (That's the camp I am in) Two, makes others a little miffed that they changed what they liked and now won't be available any longer. (this is the camp that will snatch up that 810 with the ES)

Some people like their plugged in sound to be bright, shrill and brittle. Buy something else because you won't find that here.

Here is the photo of the smokey look of the fretboard. It's there but it's not very noticeable and it doesn't look like a mistake. Thanks for your interest.

Yep, I like that one. Doesn't look oddly worn out or like something went wrong. Lol.

Here's a pic of the striped one I referenced earlier:

Its the most variegated fret board I've ever seen.... And I love it.
