Default NEW amp stand day

After finishing the install of the new hardwood in the area of the house that also happens to have my music room I decided I needed to tidy up my amps arrangement.

I had leftover flooring pieces so I decided to try make something up.

I do feel like the Acacia from the floor really imparts some extra tone as the back bottom and sides

Very happy with how it is turning out and now working on the cable organization and probably buying custom length cables that will fit more precisely for the setup.

Oh, and for stability I was using 400 lbs in weights on the top to help with the clamping for some of the glue lines so not at all concerned.IMG_20200624_220208765.jpgIMG_20200624_215635756.jpgIMG_20200624_220436204.jpg

Congrats on the amp stand. I think you're good with that Marshall - it's nowhere near 400 lbs!

The amp on the bottom is a Tone King Falcon Grande.

It is actually quite a large cabinet for a 1x12. I picked it up about 6 months ago and absolutely love it.

Nice use of left-over flooring. Is this 3" solid tongue and groove or something else?

Also, how did you handle the joinery?

Thanks.

It's 3" tongue and groove. I have a track saw so I used that to put 45* on the edges where I joined the legs.

I then used the track saw to flush cut the legs and top to be all even after joining.

I used a ripped piece just below the top on each leg to act as a "shelf" for the top to rest on and extra glue surface and then used screw and glue to suck the joint together from the inside along with the clamping and an improvised jig to hold it while clamping.

I though hard about trying a dove tail or biscuiting a few of the joins but this seems to have done the trick.

I then routed a notch on the back side of each leg to have another ripped piece of flooring that was clamped / glued to brace the bottom of the legs.

I used glue in the tongue and grooves as well to hold those in place. Finished it all with a 1/4" roundover router and then a urethane gel that matched the prefinish.

The track saw is a new toy so I was having fun playing with how to use it. Super impressed with what it can do.

I used to manage a Woodcraft store and left before I could buy a Festool track saw with the employee discount. They are great tools!

I ended up with the Bosch one but the Festool looked pretty sweet.

When used with the Festool dust collector it's virtually dust-free, as are the Festool sanders.
