Default The (piccolo) trumpet part on "Penny Lane"

" , , , and John Lennon, who was sitting in the corner, said 'oh, thanks mate, I wrote that . . . '"

Thanks for passing this along - one of the truly bright musical highlights of those St Peppers recording sessions.

Wonderful to know and hear about this. I love these snippets of Beatles lore. I have a buddy who does as well, so I’ve passed this along. Thanks for sharing.

Cheers all! It's a fun little look into the process.

"George Lennon." Haha!

"Penny Lane" might be my favorite Beatles song. This is really interesting, thanks for posting.

I also like John Wilbraham's tasteful, understated piccolo trumpet on 1967's "Constant Penelope" (from the lp "Circus") by The Gentle Power Of Song; lead guitar work by super session man Big Jim Sullivan, of course; along with David Mason (he who provided the "Penny Lane" piccolo trumpet solo), Elgar Howarth, and Roy Copestake, Wilbraham also played trumpet on the title track for "Magical Mystery Tour."
