Default cracked nut

Had a Gibson plastic nut break off at the low E corner. Replaced it with bone, but in the process, I left extra material on the side until the slots were finished and playable, THEN finished the exterior shaping on the end..I am wondering if you got a flawed piece of bone. The reason I try to avoid going very deep on the slots is to minimize the risk of "crossing" the file in the slot. Deeper slots can also tend to wander off line by the time the string begins to become "playable" with a negative effect on the spacing
