I've heard the name. I will go listen to him and find out exactly how embarrassed I should be. The vast majority of the music I listen to is made by people I actually know, since high school, anyway!

I made myself a Jazz guitar this last spring, as many will recall. I did show it at Woodstock, but I put a price on it high enough to be confident it would not sell. I am now making another that I will price realistically. If I have it at the Santa Barbara event I will offer it there. I plan to make this one aesthetically similar to the last, but am targeting a different character. The last was more traditional, this one will be more contemporary.

Beautiful Bruce...
I remember the figure in that black cherry billet. It's a stunner! Quote:

This cherry is significantly more challenging a carve than the big leaf maple I've mostly used in the past for my JZ series. I did make one from hard maple once, but like childbirth (they say), I can scarcely recall it.

How is it challenging Bruce?

Sorry about the ambiguity, I meant it is harder to carve. Not because it is wild, but literally harder. I am sharpening more often.

Quote:
• Bigleaf Maple - 3,780N • Black Cherry - 4,230N • Sugar Maple – 6,450 N I suspect Bruce’s billet is much “harder” than the published hardness for black cherry and more towards Sugar Maple.

If the rest of Bob's Janka scale were right by my experience, I'd put this cherry at about 5550.

Plates are carved, sides are bent, and I am doing a bit of assembly today:

Very Interesting!
It appears that you have flattened your arch on this new JZ and also adjusted your x-brace angle and junction location. Your last JZ is shown in the lower photo of each of these composites.
Beautiful work...

I also moved the ff holes out board some as well as a bit north, and it will have 7/32" shorter strings.
