Default Acoustic guitar amplifier

What are others’ recommendations for good starter amplifier? I mostly play alone and hope to have a looper or drum machine at some point.

I agree with the Loudbox Mini, if you want to sing and play through an amplifier... if all you want to do is amplify a guitar, Acoustic makes a small "acoustic" amp that is quite serviceable, and very inexpensive; surprisingly good for the money (~$150-ish).

Not as nice as a Fishman Loudbox or something of that caliber, but if you are anywhere near me, I have a Crate acoustic practice amp I don’t use anymore. You are welcome to borrow it and to get a sense of it if you are in the area. Just send me a PM or an email.

Not sure what you're budget is but, I have the Boss Singer Live which has many of the options you're looking for in one amp sans the drum machine. That's why I got it and I like it a lot

I agree, you really can't beat the LB Mini. For just home use though, I did get a GC Acoustic A20 for about $120 on their pre-Christmas sale. The 8 inch speaker sounds really good, but it lacks features. For the price, it's a good amp.

I got an Acoustic A 20 for Christmas, it more than serves my purpose at home. It would be fine in a coffee shop type of setting as well. Got a great price on it SDOTD, or Guitar Center's version of it. $124.95. I'd give it a little better rating than "starter."

I purchased a Nu-x amp AC50. It has loop and drum machine with a cable free, bluetooth pedal control. Its not very loud, but for home use it is perfect. It also has a line out which I send to a powered speaker. I think the newer version has battery power and IR built into the app.

Another vote for the Loudbox Mini. They’re not $150, though. More like mid-300s. I walked into Guitar Center a couple of months ago to try one out, and wouldn’t you know, there was one someone just returned. After an hour I knew it would do the job. As an open-box sale they gave me 10% off. Essentially saved the tax plus a few bucks more. It’s as good as new.

I have since been around the Loudbox Artist: twice the price and twice the features. But the Mini is fine for my needs at home practicing dynamics and string attack. I took it to an open mic in a 500-square-foot room full of bodies and it was excellent.

I loved my LB mini and LB performer, but unless they have seriously upgraded the coverings, they tear and rip if you look at them cross-eyed. I was using mine for performing, and after a very short period of time they looked like they'd landed at Normandy...

I used to own a Fishman Loudbox Mini. It is a great amp. I recently swapped my old one Towards a $399 Fender Acoustic Junior. It sounds great, has a ton of effects, and includes a looper.

The looper is not really usable though unless you buy the foot switch too, which is well worth it.

Try them both. They are both solid offerings,

Fishman Loudbox Artist for me. It has a fuller sound than the mini but still affordable. I use it with my guitars. I'm currently playing with a Fiddle/mandolin player. He doesn't own an amp and has been using mine. He sounds great through this amp and has plenty of power without connecting to the PA. His fiddle has a mic and a pickup with 2 separate cables. The mic has an XLR cable and the pickup is 1/4". He plugs both sources into the 2 channels and can boost the pickup volume for solos using a volume pedal. I'm hoping he buys his own amp eventually. Hopefully he springs for another Artist.

the loudbox amps are hard to argue with

they're great

but.., (there's always a but).. the Fender Acoustasonic Jr is a very good amp as an alternative to the Fishman

If you can find the ones that aren't labeled as the "GO" models, you can probably find a some good close out deals

The "GO" version is the updated variant that runs on Battery and I think has some Bluetooth capabilities. They're the newer more expensive model,

I have both an Artists and the NON "GO" Fender AS Jr.

They both sound great, are easy to use, and easy to lug around.

Default Marshall AS100D

I tried all of the Fishman amps, and I never really got along with them. New or used they always sounded weak with my rig. One day I read about a Marshall acoustic amp, the AS100D. I managed to find one at a good price so I figured I'd give it a try.

When I'm gigging with the band I'm using my Super Reverb. When I'm playing with my duo I use the Marshall. It's a great amp with excellent features and tone. Those 2 12" speakers are heavy as hell, but it sounds amazing.
