Default 1940 Carmelo Catania mod. 22 cello guitar

This is for sale locally. No affiliation, just thought it was cool.

The seller is asking for offers. He was using it as an art object. I can send you the link if interested.

Man, if there was ever an acoustic guitar camera-ready for a music video, that one's it.

George Michaels made those cat's eye Gretsch Synchromatic archtops skyrocket in market value when he danced around pretending to play one in the video for his song "Faith." Too bad Michaels is no longer with us: he could use this Carmelo Catania model for his followup "Doubt."

I think you're on the right track, Wade. This is why the owner used it as an objet d'art. I don't think the neck and probably tone are what I would be looking for. I'm thinking the tone is somewhere between an archtop and dobro. I have a call into the owner to see what he wants for it. Just for curiosity.

Well, please let us know if you manage to snag it. If I lived on Vancouver Island (which I wouldn't mind doing; I've visited several times and really liked it,) I might offer the guy $100 just to have it.

That would be $100 CDN, though, not US currency.

Wouldn't want to confuse the guy....

The owner called last night and he wants at least what he paid for it, $600. I asked about the action and he said it was high. Probably not very playable. Had a nice conversation with him but not going to buy it. Thanks for the comments, Wade. Vancouver Island is beautiful. PM me if you're here in the future.

I wouldn't pay $600 for it, either. It's cool and kooky and fab and all those other early 60's hepcat adjectives, but that isn't enough reason to pay $600 for it.

Pity he needs to recover that much money out of it....
