Vertebrae of the shake
Here you get a look at the lining that will support Paul's massive bevels. This one is the arm bevel on the lower bout of the top.
Early stages are truely homely. After gluing them on in the square (because they are so much easier to clamp in the square) i shape them the old school way with a knife. After the knife work comes sand paper. There is something about guitars that calls for curves. The maple sides were laminated with Spanish cedar. (That will be the only non-north American wood in the project. The decision to go local was made after the sides were laminated. Oh yes, that and the kerfed lining.

Spanish Cedar...
Isn't Spanish Cedar actually from South America? If so all the woods would be from the Americas, at least. Stretching, I know.
And, we forgot to mention the 3/4" Manzer Wedge, to go with the comfy bevels. My goal is a BIG axe with John's thunderous BIG TONE, yet sporting the comfort of a much smaller guitar. John, Stay warm in the snow, and send some out west, please! Warm and dry here, but the high winds are over at least for now... Cheers Paul

More wind warnings....
Well, the power may be shut off again tomorrow due to high winds.
So I may be out of reach. In the middle of a BUNCH of Christmas gigs... I have sent John his custom build for me, #128. It has the best neck carve I have ever enjoyed. Since he never copies anything and uses no CNC machines I figured if he had it in hand he could get very close on this new build. But this one will be short scale!!! And here is a Christmas blues on 128 for your hopeful enjoyment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4Q3XjPcdm0 Cheers Paul

Finally got thos laminated/kerfed linings done.
Its possible that this method is too time consuming. If the body looks slightly askew it's because Paul is getting a manzer wedge to go along along with the massive bevels. This guitar may be too comfortable. If Paul drops off to sleep during his own performance he has only himself to blame.

Coming along
The sound of my other three John Kinnairds is quite energizing! So I doubt I will be falling asleep at the wheel.
I am used to my elderly audiences napping at times. But after being a bandleader in the beer/whisky mines of Alaska for 14 years, it is almost like old times... Cheers Paul

I see that the upper bout may have had issues and you needed to put a patch on the inside. Nothing to cause much concern. Once finished no one will ever notice it.

The back bevel of my dreams...
I usually play seated, doing foot percussion and often harmonica in the rack, usually for an hour at a time. Sometimes two or three hours in a day...
No electronic back up. Just me in real time like back when my elderly audience members were kids. I usually have the axe in almost classical position perched on my LEFT leg, resting on a non slip rubber pad. This often involves some serious scrunching of the guitar against my sternum. Depends on the song. But over the course of a few hours it is enough that I have often wondered if I am having a heart attack on my drives home! My upper left chest is eternally sore. John has graciously worked a few extra hours on the big, long back bevel to help me with this! Thanks very much John!!! I am really looking forward to this ... And I am smiling about the soundport reinforcing! Haha Cheers Paul

Pic of JK 128 at work. Rare amped gig with my wonderful wife Cindy. No harmonica on this song...

Cool pics Paul. I really like it that you play my guitars "out" with such frequency and I actually think that you deserve all the comfort I can build in. How about a foam rubber veneer on that bevel?
