An X20 that is different from another X20?

Oh yea, an X20 that's as good as anyone would or could ask for in a guitar, and a custom Woody that cost $1500 more than puts out half the tone. It's back in Ireland, being looked at but I haven't heard anything yet.

I tried a dozen sets of strings from 11's to 13's and 4 different brands. Had my setup guy keep it for 3 weeks checking the pickup and piezo placement and clearances and changing the system out completely. Just a dud I guess.

$1500 more? That wasn't just the veneer I'm guessing. Custom scale? And/or bridge position? Do tell. Such things can make a big difference.

This is the kind of thing that can drive you crazy--it just makes no sense.

Very much what I went thru with my X7, but I have resolved it to my satisfaction. Took some work and money that should not have been necessary. I hope to compare it to another X7 someday. Good luck Puerto, hope you are happy in the end.

Yes, it sounded different both plugged in and acoustically. So the pickup was picking up exactly what I hearing. I have another Woody and another X20 that's completely stock that sound almost identical. The Woody, at least that one sounds just fine. I think it's a guitar thing, not a woody thing.

Yea, thin carved neck, 1 11/16th nut, short scale. It's very similar to my other Woody, except tone wise. It plays wonderful, it's just dull sounding for a $3500 guitar. They're checking it out, I trust them.

Thanks for your response OP.

Well, neck mass and short scale can certainly make a difference, but I’m not sure even those 2 variables can make an X20 go night and day.

I hope it all works out well for you, and I hope you continue to keep us informed here. M.

So you have two that are the same short scale and sound very different...am I reading that correctly? Or, is one woody 25.5 and the other short? How short?

Only one is the short scale, the bad one. But with my J-185 and my EC-20, which is pretty much the same guitar, only the EC-20 with a short scale, they're almost identical. I don't think it has anything to do with the neck, or neck length. I'd think, if there was a difference, it would be a thinner tone, not dead without highs. But, I could be wrong. It just seems that less mass guitars would be a bit brighter and thinner, this is just the opposite.
