Default SOTW#12: mercy, mercy, mercy

Thought I'd play something a bit more soulful since the next two I have planned are kind of cerebral...so enjoy this, Josef Zawinul classic, also made popular by the great Buckinghams....

That was awesome. Very nice playing. Indeed, it looked effortless.

That also brought back some memories for me. My folks always listened to jazz, swing and the big bands when I was a kid. I actually got into it too. My dad had a Buddy Rich album that had this song on it and I remember taking a shine to it. Then he got a Herbie Mann album where Mann had done his own rendition of it. Oh yeah.

I don't think I'd heard this song since those days. Thanks for the memories.

I first noticed this piece on a Buddy Rich compilation many years -- but had completely forgotten the title (until this thread).

Fantastic playing.

I may have to try a cheesy DADGAD version of it...

DADGAD, huh? I give ya credit...I can't do nothin' in that tuning.

On the acoustic guitar, I play in DADGAD 90% of the time. I think the open strings are a good fit with the kind of harmonies I play.

The remaining 10% is spent playing classics (no point in adapting "Dust in the Wind" for DADGAD... LOL) or noodling some blues.

I remember that tune! I really like that. Seems like Zawinul recorded that first with Cannonball Adderley. I think I still have Buddy Rich's version... didn't Weather Report also record that? Can't remember, but that's a great tune and you played it beautifully, Jeff. Thanks...
