Default The Custom Shop J-17 is a go!!

The DSS-17 is the best sounding Martin guitar, to me, that I've been able to play. But I want a jumbo, not a dread.

Just imagine that the DSS-17

and the 000-17

Had a baby. And it took 6 to 7 months to be born!

This morning I got an amazing price for a Custom Shop J-17 from Maury's Music. It will be a true J-17, not all customized. The only change is to add a back binding. And I'm getting a case not a gig bag.

I'll be calling him later to get it going.

Thank you Maury. This is going to be great!

VERY cool! I know at least two AGFers whose new DSS-17s arrived this week and should be posting NGD threads soon. Now I’m really looking forward to yours when this custom beauty arrives.

Well, the deposit is paid and the paperwork is on the way back to Maury. It's funny that I don't love either the Whiskey Sunset or the Black Smoke. When I first thought about the 000-17, I thought ''maybe they'll come out with a natural 17''. I could have ordered my J-17 with a natural finish and I might have saved money, but I want it to be obvious that this is a J-17. If it was natural no one would know what model it is.

Since this is the only J-17 in the world, I want it to be obvious that it is a 17!

I am eager to hear about it. I would love a D-17 in a slot head 12 fret configuration.

Contact Maury, you will be surprised just how affordable a custom 17 can be if you leave it in it's plain Jane finish.

Yes, for the time being. But, with Martin Jumbo's not being that popular, it might be for a while. But, I see my guitar as a new model for Martin next year, I'll be thrilled!

I think Steve was suggesting that he might follow your lead

Sorry,I didn’t get it.

Steve, I say; the more the merrier!

The price that Maury gave me makes this impossible to resist. And it includes a HS case, not the gig bag.

Get your order in now!

Cool. You invented a new Martin. If there are at least five custom orders, maybe they'll do it.

I was told by Martin a while ago that you could only get a custom order in an 18 series and above. Glad to see they're allowing this now on the less expensive models.

That's why you have to go through a dealer with experience with the custom shop.

I wanted a Jumbo but just can't afford a J-40 and in going around testing, I found that I didn't want rosewood.

Maury suggested that I find a lesser model to base my Jumbo on. He told me that they wouldn't customize a DSS-17 because it is still in it's first year, but they will make a J-17 based on the 17 series guitars.

I was still worried about the price, but boy was I surprised, if I take out the price of the HS case, it is right around the cost of any standard 17 series guitar at GC.

So come on, call one of our forum sponsors and order a custom 17 series guitar.

To paraphrase Arlo Guthrie;

If one person asks for a J-17, they'll think you're crazy

If two people they think you're a couple of......

If five people ask, it will be a movement!

So this is it, let's start the Alice's Restaurant J-17 movement!

''You can get anything that you want.........''

I am a little confused so please excuse the dumb questions. Is Martin making you a J40 body shape with the materials and finish of the new DSS 17 series??? Same woods and whiskey finish as the DSS 17??

Please do not take this the wrong way but how do you know you will like the sound. You said the new "DSS17 was the best sounding Martin guitar to me". I am not trying to rain on your parade and I like your enthusiasm but won't a J40 body sound different then a DSS 17. Maybe I am just not clear on what you have ordered, hence the question.
