Smoothing out the finish on a Rainsong Studio series?
Has anyone attempted to sand down some of the rough finish on a Rainsong Studio series guitar? I own an S-DR1000-n2. Nice guitar. Having a hard time with how noisy the finish is. Emailed Rainsong and was told they hand sand using micron grade paper.
Any thoughts? Attempts? Pointers?

I have similar problems when trying to record with my satin finished 400 series Taylor guitars (satin bodies, gloss tops). The quick and easy answer I've found is to drape a chamois over the top of the upper bout and down the back of the guitar, trapping the chamois against my body. That prevents the handling noise, but does not dampen the guitar's sound perceptibly.
I would be very hesitant to mess around with the guitar's finish, which is irreversible. Definitely listen to and follow any advice Rainsong has. No one knows better than they do. If you insist on going forward with sanding, check in with an auto body shop -- especially one known for working with the fiberglass bodies of Corvettes. See what advice they have. You can certainly sand the finish, but for most folks adding a pickguard solved most of the noise problems associated with a tough finish. |

Clarification
Clarification:
Dave at Rainsong, who has been very responsive and helpful, said that they hand sand the neck, not the body. That was my mistake. I misread one of his emails. I added a pick guard and it has helped. Thanks Rick

Will sell or trade

I'd be willing to sell or trade for a Rainsong with an n2 neck, smooth/gloss finish and a cutaway. Ideally, an H-WS1000-n2 would be great.
