A little family reunion. Was able to play two of the Memphis kostals side by side (madi 00 and braz md) with my 2011 Mod D (braz/german) and also a 2013 somogyi om (braz/german).

On Sunday, I'm flying to Jason's place for a closer look to what's coming in October! Will update with plenty of pics!

I have to hang out with you more often; you seem to attract awesome guitars!

With all the Kostals you've played, how do you find his baseline setup? I played each of those in Memphis and of course the tone was peerless. That said I prefer my setup pretty darn low and think if it was lower on the OM in particular that I could have gotten an even better sound. Those were the only guitars of his I've ever had the chance to play.

Thanks!

Matthew, I think Jason's baseline set up is pretty low which is great for fingerstyle. I think his Memphis guitars would be a fair representation of his fingerstyle set up. I have heard that he doesn't want to go too low because a guitar will settle into being a guitar in the first year of its life. This does not mean it is high, because it is pretty low to start with! Also, depending on where the guitar ends up living, the guitar will settle differently depending on the relative humidity of the particular area. The two memphis builds were set up very similarly to the Somogyi I played which makes sense.

My Kostal is set up extremely low. I find it better for my fingerstyle. I do notice a hair less power when playing chords with a pick, but 98% of the time, it's just fingerstyle!

Crazy stuff Eric.

I am still reeling from a pal's Kostal OM that I played a couple of weeks ago. That guitar was stupid good. I am working out how to steal it...

Keep us updated as promised.

Cheers,
Steve

Looking good Eric, can't wait to see the pics soon.
(I'm certainly going to have difficulty choosing between the 00, OM, MD and Jumbo for my build.)

Steve, I'm anticipating my coming OM to be stellar as well. I always get nervous because I don't know what to expect, but each time I play another Kostal, I always wonder how Jason does it! As you know, they are that good!

Roy, you just need to get one of each!

Off to Phoenix! Next stop, Jason Kostal's workshop

Unfortunately Eric, there can be only one

Please pause from frivolous activities like hiking in Grand Canyon etc, and spend some quality time posting pics of your visit to Jason's shop, your build etc...priorities man!!!

Sorry guys, been busy and brought my lovely wife to AZ. We flew into Phoenix sunday night and we are busy catching up with Jason and then headed out to the Grand Canyon. After a day hiking, checking out Flagstaff and then Sedona, we headed back to Phoenix for one of the best steak dinners I've had. So here are a few pics from the trip!

Many shop pics coming!

Kostal overload! Seeing his shop again is too much for me to handle. It's just too awesome.

Does Jason ever just buy one of something?

Cheers,
Steve

I don't think he ever buys only one of anything!

As you can see from the pics, there is a place for everything in his shop. He is meticulously organized and has things stored and put away in very specific places. My wife loves to organize and she is a very detailed person. She couldn't stop commenting on how clean and well thought out Jason's shop was! She said he is an organizer's dream!

And here are the extremely rare and expensive Japanese chisels!

And where all the bad ones go!

Hey Eric,

Any pics or news of your OM?

Those Japanese chisels have to be used on something! Haha

AWESOME Photos!

Love the "terrible chisels" drawer.

Doesn't anyone else think that rack of clamps looks like something out of a medieval torture dungeon?
