Nice job Toby.

I learned that arrangement (from Guy himself) over thirty years ago. It took about a year to make it performance ready. I then played it for my biological father (who was not happy with my career choice as a musician) and I nailed it! His reply? “It’s kinda noisy”. Lol.

By the way-I see you left out the “snare drum” part. Lol

One of my favorites - I was at Club Passim in 1976 hearing Guy do the original and then when you played it for my 60th birthday. This may have been the one piece of music that made me want to play fingerstyle guitar!

Thanks Toby!

Wonderful. Sousa would approve The greatest march ever written, should be the national anthem!

The snare drum roll was in Guy's arrangement of Semper Fidelis. Toby played all parts of Guy's arrangement of Stars & Stripes.

Thanks Mark... I would have added that instrument but the drummer never showed up.

I remember playing that for you and your friends. What a great time we had Rick.

Hot diggity! I feel good finding other people who play this music too! Thank you, Toby, for sharing your YouTube of “Star’s & Stripes” here!!

Thank you Larry Ku, for the reminder about Guy Van Duser’s arrangement of Semper Fidelis, I haven’t played it in a few years, just forgot about it. I will be sure to play it tomorrow. I bought that book (Stride Guitar) twice, lent it out both times, never got it back both times. Maybe I can find a used version online. (Maybe not, I see it’s listed for sale for over $800 on Amazon) I still play an arrangement of “Boys of Blue Hill” based on Guy’s arrangement in that book.

I played “Stars & Stripes” at all of our (my wife and I) retirement home gigs for 15 years. Also played Semper Fidelis when we played our “All Patriotic” shows, which were always around July 4th, Veteran’s Day, Memorial Day.

There are EXCELLENT arrangements of all 4 parts of both “Maple Leaf Rag” and “The Entertainer” in Paul Lolax’s excellent book:

I've always loved that arrangement. Well done!

Very crisp, lively, snappy performance, Toby. I really enjoyed it. I especially enjoyed your creative additions to the accompaniment in a couple of phrases. And you really executed the bass rolls at the end of each phrase in the first verse ver well!
