Homestead Rescue
Anyone else love this show? The Discovery channel's Homestead Rescue show is an interesting look into the lives of homesteaders across America. The Rainey family show up and over the course of a week do some really creative stuff usually for little or no money, and using resources found on the owner's property to help them become self reliant. There are a lot of self sustaining farms in my area and so it's a neat look into the common (or uncommon!) problems and clever solutions they come up with. Good show! The topic is really interesting to me and I feel like I've learned something each time. Check it out...

Yeah count me in. The old man is pretty much a no messing around guy, he gets the job done and done well. Some of the families are pretty clueless though, sometimes hard to watch.

I haven’t seen the show for a while, but I really like it. I’ve really liked Marty and the other participants of the earlier Alaska wilderness show which I thought was great.

yup
I like these shows, and other "Off grid" shows on cable. Something remarkable to watch is from a business owner in Toronto that went belly-up . He told his wife he needed a new direction and did this fascinating homestead...

Tom, yeah I was going to mention that one. Years ago Marty was in this NatGeo show called Ultimate Survival Alaska and he was a character! In one episode a big fish jumped into their boat as they floated down the river and Marty pulled a gun and shot the fish putting a hole in the boat of course. Best moment of the show.
TomB'sox - yeah I am not sure how much of it is scripted but I think that some elements must be! JR

I enjoy it, too, but it's definitely a reality that only exists on TV. It's amazing how many homesteads have 15 old windows lying around so Misty can build a greenhouse for almost nothing. And access to every possible form of heavy equipment doesn't hurt, either.
I kind of miss the old opening where Marty talks about his resume and holds up that cracked and weather-beaten mess of a hand. He's certainly a character.

I dig that stuff. I built this cabin 20 years ago in the middle of the woods. No electricity, no running water. It's just an escape, but we may yet move to the property. I love building stuff.
Man, I need some new pictures of it since photobucket ruined the other ones... |
