Propper saddle fit, Yamaha FS3
Hello Guys,
Last Saturday i bought a new Yamaha FS3. I changed the saddle to a compensated TUSQ one but i have no Idea if its fit propperly. Lenght wise there are small gabs on both sides. I donīt think that the saddle is bending foreward... When i took the guitar overhead with no strings on, its sitting in his position. And I replaced the plastic pins with ebony, are they fitting right? Here are some pics, thanks for your help! |

All good, but a small issue, the two bass pins are riding high, most likely due to the collar beneath the head riding high on the thicker string. Do you have a file that would open up that point on the collar, to allow the rest of the collar to sit on the bridge top like the other pins?

Do you mean that I need file that slot in the pin a bit bigger?

Yes. Extend the slot up through the collar, to allow for the bass string to pass through.

Yamaha saddle slots tend to be wider than the standard 3mm width found on most guitars, so tricky to get a tight fitting saddle unless you ate hand making one.

I've seen no comment as to why the saddle was needing replacement. If intonation was a problem, could the saddle have been adjusted, and if intonation was not a problem, why change the saddle? Automatically installing a 'compensated' saddle doesn't mean that intonation will be improved and rendered correct for that very instrument. I'm confused.

I changed the saddle because the stock plastic one was very loose.

A layer or two of 'magic tape' on the saddle will tighten it up in its slot very nicely.

@phavriluk the String height is nice as it is, why tighten it up???

tape
Tape goes on one or both sides of the saddle to tighten up the fit. Nothing to do with height.
