Anyway it was done, successfully, preparing for this step:

Each step, and it looks more like a guitar.
Dave chose an African Blackwood bridge which, granted, isn't obvious from this pic. But the subtle browns in its grain work well with that sinker redwood top.
Not long now, Dave!
Wow Steve it looks amazing, the home stretch is always the most exciting part, every picture brings us a little closer!!

Thanks guys, we're pleased the way it's turning out.
Speaking of which:

IMG_2674.jpg

That pic ^ is a shot of our dry run for the neck install.
It gives a real sense of the finished instrument. And you get to see some of Dave's design elements coming together:
the 42 style Paua inlays, the double white purfling lines along the fret board, gold Evo fret wire, and how those elements tie in to the general theme. Let me flip this over:

IMG_2675.jpg

And there is a glimpse of the neck's color as it ties in to the dark Madagascan rosewood.
And now that the dry run is complete, time to install that neck:

Thanks for following along,

Steve

LOVE IT. I love the color of the neck and the inlay on the headstock and the Redwood etc. etc.

Thank you, Tom! Again, these are some more of the elements that were part of Dave's vision.
And this is the part that never gets old--bringing into fruition what the customer "sees". I think this back-and-forth with the client is what has yielded the greatest rewards for me as a luthier. (It certainly keeps one from turning into a factory. And that is a good thing!)

Thanks Tom and Paul I greatly appreciate the kind words. Steve and Ryan have outdone themselves with this one. I was looking for traditional style appointments since the wood is anything but traditional and Steve has created exactly what I had envisioned. I couldn't be more excited to take this one for a spin

I’ll try to take some final pictures tomorrow if everything gets finished, but until then, look at the color on the Madagascar Rosewood. So rich.

Indeed, thanks guys! So, a few more last minute steps were done today. Bridge pins were fitted and string ramps filed in the bridge:

IMG_2678.jpg

As you can see, Dave chose Ebony pins with Parisian eyes. Just a wee touch of sophistication at the bridge.
Also, tuners and nut were fit:

IMG_2679.jpg

IMG_2682.jpg

It was Ryan's idea to locate that rear inlay where it is. He noticed that the tuners create a simi-circular negative space, and that the "flourishes" emerging from the gold ring would fit in those spaces nicely.

Thanks as always for looking,

Steve

Sorry I've been having some trouble getting good pictures of this guitar. (Amateur photographer and dark mirror guitar have been causing me fits, but Im going to try again today!) In the meantime, you'll have to settle with a video. Bought a new mic, and I hope it captures for you what this guitar sounds like. Both Steve and I are very happy with the result, and we know Dave will be soon!

Thanks for watching!
