I see your point but he is still amplified. If he played without that microphone, we wouldn't be able to hear half the dynamics we could hear.

Anyway, Frank is great -- and yes you can play jazz on an acoustic archtop...

Well...yes. He is playing "through the air" and the sound is being picked up by the microphone.
