Default Yamaha love

I know the L series and upper end Yamahas get a lot of love on here. Tonight, I played my LLX26 with a Bluechip pick. The strings on it are D’Addario XT. They've been on it for nearly a year with (sadly) limited play time on them. I was going to string up a fresh set of Cleartones, but the thing sounded so incredible I just kept playing and smiling. I own a Taylor 324ce and I love its tone and unplugged sound and neck profile. That said, the LLX26 is superior in ways that are hard to describe. The sustain, the audible subtleties of changes in attack, the intonation, and other things just sum to an amazing instrument that needs to be played to appreciate.

When it works, go with it brother. Go with it. BTW, those coated strings can last a looong time.

I believe that the LL/LS 26, 36, and 56, along with the newer FG9s, are some of the nicest and best acoustics in the world--period. I am, always have been, and always will be a massive Yamaha fan. The quality of acoustics they are producing at all levels right now is staggeringly good.

I agree with the sentiments in this thread. I have an LL36 and a few other great guitars (from Lowden, Gibson and Martin). Of course it's all subjective but the LL36 is, in my mind, a level above the others. Or perhaps it just suits me. I'm surprised that Yamaha is discontinuing the high-end L series.

I believe my LS36 is the finest acoustic guitar I've ever held and or played. Bar none, and I have some seriously nice guitars in my collection. I've heard rumors, off and on, about a discontinuation of the L series. I also heard the London Representative strongly denied this. Do you by chance have something solid that would indicate this is true?

If so I'm gonna seriously look for an L to add before it's too late.

I thought I heard that they were going to discontinue the LL56 but keep the others?

I recently acquired a Yamaha LL36 and can say without a doubt, the finest guitar I have ever owned. The quality of the guitar and the sounds that come out of her are above anything I have experienced. I will also add a caveat. This is my opinion....and based on my playing styles.

Well I bought my LL36 a couple of weeks ago from Yamaha London and the sales rep told me that it would probably be the last one that they'd sell. He also said that the luthiers who built the 26/36/56 models had retired/been moved on. Yamaha is focusing on the FG9 now.

I don't know if that's correct or official but it's what I was told. It would explain why Yamaha London sold off the 26 and 36 models relatively cheaply over the last couple of years.

Same with me and my LS36. I hope it is not true, and LL might be in the future.

Yamaha makes great stuff.

I have two relatively inexpensive nylon string Yamahas, and they are among my favorite guitars to play. I might be fancying a Revstar...

I hadn’t heard that Yamaha was thinking of discontinuing the L Series. That would be a shame.
My LL500 is 20+years old now, these are the predecessor of the LL26/36/56.
They were only made between 1999-2003. Held in such high regard that Michael Chapdelaine owned one and played it on his albums.
The LL500 is the most articulate guitar I own. On par with my Goodall Rosewood Standard.

Here’s my demo and review

Would you all say that the less expensive LL6, LL16, are in the same league as the higher priced ones ? Or is there a significant jump up in quality?

I own an LL-16D and it is a fantastic guitar.

The difference in it and the LL-26 and up, is where they are made and how much hands on they receive.

The 16 series can be more hit and miss I suppose but i sure got a great one.

I have an LL16-12 that is very good also but impossible to compare to the LS36 for obvious reasons.

Even Yamaha's inexpensive $300 guitars sound way better than they have a right to.
