For what it's worth I contacted Apple support to ask about the Mac Studio fan whine noise issue and was told "Apple has not officially released anything about this..."

2013 Mac Pro noise is rated by Apple at 12dB at idle and the Mac Studio is rated at 15dB. In other words the fans in a Mac Studio are approximately twice as loud as a 2013 Mac Pro.

What we're hearing in this video is obviously turned up to make listening easier but if you look at the meter on the right, you can see at 1000 and 1150 rpm the noise gets to about -45, at 1200, 1250 and 1300 it drops to around -57, then at 1320 it pops up to about -48.

To reach those levels, the mic had to be 1cm from the back of the computer. So the mic is right where the noise would be loudest and it's only getting to -45 at worst. The further one sets a mic up from the noise source, the lower the noise will be so I'm thinking that unless you're setting the mic up right next to the computer, this is going to be a non-issue. And if the numbers I've heard are correct, this is not a consistent issue on every Mac Studio M1 Max and 90% of users will have no noise issue at all.

Following this thread with so much anticipation...
As I will most likely buy the Mac Studio M1 MAX in June.

Only been waiting for June Announcements(in case their is a new product that I should consider) & in hope that more music programs become compatible with the M1-Mac Monterey by then.

Do we know what is the Dates yet for the June announcements.

June 6-10. It was just announced a few days ago.
I don't think we'll be seeing a "new" computer from Apple. We'll see the redesigned Mac Pro, then perhaps an updated Air and/or Mini. I'm doubtful it will be more than that on the computer front. The Mac Pro will be the star of this event. Will we see a smaller version that starts less than the current $6K is what I'm wondering.

I don’t doubt it’s a thing. Sound’s like it may be a manufacturing issue, which would explain why it’s not happening to everyone.

We got lucky. Ours has been quiet. Dodged a bullet there. I’d hate to have to be dealing with Apple trying to get it fixed.

I don't remember if this video showed up in this thread somewhere, but Barry Johns shows that you can run a good sized session and track at 32 buffer on a Mac Studio. The Mac Book Pro did not fare as well.

I agree. My sense is that the new Mac Pro will be somewhat modular and User accessible (At least as far as access to PCIe slots. , which was the main objection of the Trash Can Pro ) As for RAM and GPU I would think not being tied to the CPU
(but that is a guess).

If they will have a less than $6 version is a good question ,,,, the only problem there is the Ultra studio already has a starting point of $4 k so I don't how much Apple can, or will want to reduce the Mac Pro line price wise, and end up possibly curtailing higher end Studio sales ???? It will be interesting

I don't think we'll see a decoupling, if that's what you mean. Unless I'm missing something, it appears the way it's designed now, upgrading ram later is a thing of the past unless they introduce some kind of secondary ram.

I'm certainly not a tech guru but it appears the marrying of the cpu and ram as Apple has done is the primary reason for the speed and capacity of these machines so I don't think we'll see a decoupling, if that's what you mean. Unless I'm missing something, it appears the way it's designed now, upgrading ram later is a thing of the past unless they introduce some kind of secondary ram that only kicks in when needed ...but I wonder if that might hurt the speed of the machines.

I don't think it's out of the realm of what's possible for us to see a smaller, modular Mac Pro with a base price of $5K alongside a larger version with a higher starting price. There were two iMacs for a long time and there are two Mac Studios, so maybe a mini Mac Pro and a full sized Mac Pro? I'm not predicting that because there have been no rumors about it but if Apple kept the same Mac Pro case they're using now for the larger version, maybe that kind of offering could have flown under the radar.

Yes. Latest version of Pro Tools at the studio on the Mac Studio. I don’t remember the version/date designation. 2022.5 I suppose. I’d have to confirm next time I’m in the studio.

So the latest prognostication is that there will likely be a new Mac Mini (maybe even a high end ( Mini Pro ?) at the June Event and it will have the M2 chip and maybe even an M2 Pro version ?
He kinda babbles about non related stuff IMO ,, but starts to get into it at about the 2:00 min. mark

I hear that!

I wish Apple would include the ports creative professionals need on their “pro” systems.

I know nothing about designing computers but I'm wondering how much power they can squeeze into a Mac Mini before the noise from the cooling system becomes an issue.
