What would you say is the closest inexpensive
alternative guitar (in sound) to a Martin OM-28 Marquis? (Emphasis on inexpensive).
I saw a guy on YouTube who did a demo with one, and I was blown away.

There is no such thing. If you want the Martin OM-28 than save up for one.

Eastman E20-OM shares the same wood combo of Adirondack and EIR, along with scalloped bracing. It'll obviously be a different guitar but it's probably the best answer to your question.
I have two Eastman E10 series guitars which I play and love alongside a vintage D28 and a Huss and Dalton TDM. They have their own voice but they are great guitars in the Martin tradition.

The first OM that ever grabbed me was a Martin OM-28 Marquis. I couldn’t afford it then and I can’t afford one now. I played the Eastman E20OM and liked it, bought one, but ended up moving it along. It was a good guitar, but it wasn’t the OM-28 Marquis. Maybe the one I played was just that good, or maybe my eastman wasn’t the best example, but it wasn’t the same.
Closest you could truly probably get to that tone for less is to save up for a used OM-28, IMHO. An Eastman is probably not going to scratch your Martin itch.

I will agree with everyone else. You want a super premium guitar, not just a regular expensive OM-28!
Somehow my suggestion of a Recording King OM with a torrified top probably isn't going to sound all that much like the guitar of your dreams but may be worth a shot. |

Used OM-21, maybe, but it's still not going to be inexpensive.

I will second the Eastman OM recommendations, unless you must have THAT name on the headstock. They seem pretty nice. But you won't get the tone and quality of a $3k guitar for a third of that price. Lots of shopping may let you stumble across a less expensive outlier prime example of something cheaper.

Play Oms in your price range till one blows yer skirt up.
What you hear in a video is going to be different in your lap.

In terms of budget instruments, you just have to play everything you can get your hands on until you STUMBLE onto the one. The cheap gems are out there, but it's like a treasure hunt and you can't just "find a close cheap model". There is no such thing. If you want to save money and want what you want you have to be patient and work at finding something. The journey can be fun in itself.

As has been said, don't put too much stock in youtube demos. There are probably many guitars that get in the ballpark of the sound you heard on that demo. |

Furch do some stunning OMs which are priced considerably lower than the equivelant martins. I would highly recommend you check out a furch vintage series OM, you may be able to aquire a used one fairly inexpensively.

I have a very cheap Yamaha that I love as much as my Breedlove. My daughter plays an Alvarez that is amazing as well. I played just under $500 for the Alvarez. |

I’ve owned nine of them. Currently have five. The Artist series hit way above their price point. The Masterworks even moreso. So MA is auditorium like a Taylor x14 MF is folk size. Think between a x12 and x14. MD is Dread size. M indicates Masterworks. In the Artist series it would be AG, AF, AD, and AJ for Jumbo.

Eastman makes great guitars, but their sound is different than what you'd hear in the Martin OM-28 Marquis. If you really want a Martin, you should probably save and look for a used one. If budget is the factor, then there are several excellent guitar companies out there, including Eastman and Martin.

The Blueridge BR-163 would get you in the same ballpark but not really close. A used OM-21 can be had for slightly less than 2 grand.
