this post brought back some memories..i think its been close to 25 years since ive stored a pick in the strings...cant even remember why i stopped doing it honestly...probably about as long since i stopped putting my lit cigarettes on the untrimmed strings, thank gosh i gave up that bad habit..smoking that is
as far as picks i keep them everywhere, pick boxes, git cases, kitchen cupboards, dresser, bed, couch, deck, car, top of fridge, bread box..etc etc

No. I didn’t do it when this thread was started back in 2012 and I still don’t do it. Always have mine in a box, pouch or in the guitar case compartment.

Yes I do. And my two year old grandson does too.

Speaking of never, I never put the pick between the strings. I keep a V-Pick in my pocket - just in case, and the rest are in the Altoids tin.

Do you keep your pick in the strings?
No, I don’t, I keep my picks in my pick-boxes, one of which lives on the desk in my office/guitar-room, the other on the coffee-table in the living room by my chair.
The reason is that, for at least 50% of my playing time, I’m finger-picking and not using a flat-pick, so I perceive no advantage in having a pick tucked under the strings because at least 50% of my time I don’t need it and, when I’m using a flat-pick, I use different picks depending on the song I’m doing and the tone I want from the guitar. It’s definitely not a case of “One pick fits all” AFAIC.

Do you keep your pick in the strings?
Sometimes. But like JayBee, I fingerpick quite a bit, so I don't always have a pick in hand. Which means I have to go searching if I need one. LOL. There are usually a few picks sitting on the table by my chair. I keep most of my picks in a round, zippered container that a friend made for me. For someone who mostly fingerpicks and doesn't flat pick, at all, I own a surprisingly large number of picks!

Yup. This is the only pick I've used for about ten years, and it only lives in the strings or in my hand.

But overthinking is what do here, right? In fact, I know for a fact that whether you stick your pick in the strings at the first versus the second fret, it has a dramatic difference on the tone of the guitar. Not as much as ebony vs tusq bridge pins, but dramatic.
