OC1,
That is a beautiful guitar in all respects and I agree with WhistlingFish -- it is nice to see a break from tradition. You should be very, very proud of your work!!! |

I love the name Bubinga...it is so cool, that is reason alone to build a guitar out of it!

The tradition in africa is that bubinga has magical properties and after building one I am sure it is based on something - at least the magical property where it tries to fully test my patience.
I don't know, I heard that normal bubingas are quite cooperative - mine wasn't and it was strongly determined to remain plank of wood (or a firewood as I was politely reminding it from time to time during its tantrums) and not a guitar. So far I won. So far....

OC,
I think you did a great job on your guitar. It looks awesome and by far much more advanced craftsmanship than your typical 3rd build. Well done... BTW, I wouldn't call your Bubinga Curly, you may want to called it Figured but curly would be more in the lines of this: Curly aka Fiddleback.

Figured, yeah that's the word I was looking for. I was in a exotic wood store and saw similar bubinga set there. (They called it heavy figured)
I got canary wood this time as it was unusual, very nice figure and not expensive. Good for some another bit more experimental build. I got also some other set but I already forgot what wood it was - I was more looking for a nice figure on a budget, not any particular wood so I grabbed what I liked. I have Goncalo Alves and Walnut at home - so plenty of material for next few builds. I will see what I would do next.
