Default Now THAT’s how it’s done—packing a guitar for shipping (Gryphon Strings content)

I recently purchased a used guitar from Gryphon Strings and it arrived yesterday with the best packing job I’ve ever seen from a shop or private seller. The case was nicely packed with extra bubble wrap on the sides, and the case was in a clear plastic bag like one sees with new guitars.

But inside the case, the guitar was packed with extreme care. Of course, the stings were tuned down a little more than a whole step. A sort of lightly waxed paper wrapped around the strings. A cloth wrapped around the headstock, secured with rubber bands. Crumpled brown paper supporting the headstock, both below and on top. A pro-fessional job. Bravo.

Since I’ve had guitars damaged in transit, I really appreciate it when someone goes the extra mile, let alone the extra step. Thanks, Gryphon Strings.

Best guitar shop on planet earth. I'm VERY happy to live just 15 minutes away.

Unfortunately, Gryphon is a three-hour drive away. I usually make it a stop on my way back from the San Francisco airport after my biannual trip to Germany.
It's the only store I use for guitar repairs.
Congratulations on your new guitar, Sinistral!

No mention of the carrier? We absolutely skewer them when they mess up. :-)
Enjoy that beautiful guitar and, yes, Gryphon is top flight.
Best,
Jayne

Great! For the record, I noticed that Gruhn packs in a similar way. Experience.

It was shipped via UPS without a hitch. I recently received a D-18 Authentic 1937 from The Music Emporium (special ordered about a year ago), delivered in 2 days via FedEx, also without a hitch. The guitar was well-packed, but not as nicely as the one from Gryphon. It’s a new guitar, so maybe it was packed the way it came from the factory. Both Gryphon and TME are top-flight shops to deal with.

Thanks! I realize that it probably doesn’t make a lot of sense to buy a Standard Series D-18 after just receiving an Authentic, but the ambertone finish was calling me. The ambertone is particularly well done on this specimen. The top is beautifully silked under the finish and, even though the guitar a year or so old, it could pass as new.

Perhaps a topic for another thread—“Show us your great packing job.”

I love the Ambertone finish! It certainly would tempt me!

I bought my Taylor from Gryphon, and it came packed just like that Martin.

It was a perfect buying experience. The guy on the phone was great.

I hope I get to visit in person one of these days.

I *just* got my GAS under control for a minute, and now your Amber D-18 is calling to me. Imitation is the highest form of flattery. There is nothing about guitar craziness that makes sense. That's the beauty of it.

I don't see a problem with buying a D 18 after buying an Authentic, as they are quite different guitars. The D 18 remains a very high value guitar, and remains my benchmark for what a good guitar is. I just don't get on with the MLO neck.

Glad your beautiful ambertone finish D-18 arrived safely. Cheers to Gryphon and UPS for a job well done. Enjoy your D-18!
